Independent Study and Mentorship is a program offered to high school juniors and seniors throughout the Frisco Independent School District, allowing them the opportunity to gain experience in a specific topic of study through shadowing a mentor in the student's field of choice. It provides participants with a once in a lifetime chance to establish relationships in the professional world, gain beneficial knowledge and experience in their field of choice, and finally to have the opportunity to personally learn the ways in which professionals in said field are expected to function in hands on interactions.
ISM allows students to gain professional experience, so that they may better prepare themselves for the business world outside of high school, setting standards and expectations early on, rather than learning from negative experiences in future work places. Throughout the ISM school year, students are challenged in many ways, one of these challenges being to create an original work intended to either assist or improve their chosen topic. At the end of the school year, students participate in Final Presentation Night, showcasing the research performed, original works created, and the speeches that were put together throughout the program. |
